A new initiative that is geared towards deepening Fiji’s foreign relations and global cooperation will unfold this week when non-resident Ambassadors and High Commissioners accredited to Fiji from Canberra and Wellington arrive on our shores for a first ever familiarisation visit this week.
The familiarisation visit program, with the theme “Nurturing Global Partnerships for Sustainable Development,” will be held from Tuesday 20th to Thursday 22nd August 2019.
It is intended to strengthen Fiji’s bilateral relations and cooperation with the countries participating in the programme who are based in Canberra and Wellington, which span the regions of Asia, Africa, Europe, Western Europe, Middle East and Latin America.
The programme will highlight Fiji’s national development efforts and strengthening global partnerships to achieve development aspirations across all sectors.
It will include a full day of discussions and engagement between the Fijian Government representatives and the 17 participating envoys on Fiji’s national development priorities and plans, economic, trade and investment policies, financial and regulatory policy, tourism and explore other opportunities for cooperation in various sectors.
The visiting Heads of Missions will have the opportunity to witness environmental programs adopted by Fiji to mitigate the impacts of climate change.
They will be interacting with village representatives and visiting research and development facilities in agriculture.
Another feature of this programme is promoting Fiji’s tourism through different activities. Fijian women and youth entrepreneurs will also have the opportunity to market the Fijian-made products and artefacts.
The visit will also seek to enhance support for Fiji’s social welfare and empowerment programs for women and children.
This inaugural familiarisation visit is jointly coordinated through an inter-agency committee involving Government and other stakeholders.
