Fiji’s Acting Prime Minister and Attorney General Hon. Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum led the Fijian delegation in a historic bilateral meeting with Secretary Blinken and the US delegation yesterday. This signifies a new era in the relationship.
At the meeting, the two countries discussed steps that both nations will pursue to strengthen relations in addressing climate change, economic recovery, defence and security, and trade and investment opportunities.
We express our appreciation to Secretary Blinken for his visit to Fiji while promising to work closely with the United States to advance Fiji’s and the Pacific Islands’ opportunities.
We applaud the United States for rejoining the Paris Agreement.
We also acknowledge the United States’ support to the COVID-19 response by providing vaccines and humanitarian assistance directly and via the United Nations.
