We conducted the first-ever virtual meeting between the United States of America and Pacific Island leaders. This meeting held yesterday strengthened the partnership between the US and the region on climate change, COVID-19, disaster recovery assistance, advancement of a shared commitment to democracy, regional solidarity, and prosperity in the Pacific.
The meeting was chaired by Fiji’s Acting Prime Minister and Attorney General Hon. Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum. He delivered an opening address to welcome Secretary of State, His Excellency Antony John Blinken and Pacific Island leaders at the meeting.
Following the remarks from Secretary Blinken, the Pacific leaders had the opportunity to deliver their address.
The engaged leaders had an open discussion on the common challenges and opportunities for strengthened collaboration with the United States.
The meeting ended with closing remarks made by Acting Prime Minister Sayed-Khaiyum and State Secretary Blinken.
