At the wreath laying ceremony held at the National War Memorial site this morning, the Governor-General of the Commonwealth of Australia, His Excellency General the Honourable David Hurley and Her Excellency, Mrs Linda Hurley paid their tribute to the fallen Fijian soldiers and Fijian peacekeepers who have paid the ultimate sacrifice in the their line of duty and service in global peace.
They also met with ex-servicemen and members of Fiji’s disciplinary forces. Governor-General Hurley and Mrs Linda Hurley, were welcomed by the Minister for Defence, National Security and Policing Inia Seruiratu.
In attendance were also the Australian High Commissioner to Fiji Mr John Feakes and the High Commissioner of Fiji to Australia, Mr. Luke Daunivalu.
Fiji and Australia share historical links in peacekeeping and there is ongoing cooperation in defence and security.
