Fiji and Vanuatu have reasserted their commitment to work closely in advancing the shared aspirations of our Pacific family.
This was articulated at a courtesy call paid by the Special Envoy of the Prime Minister to the Pacific and Fiji’s High Commissioner to New Zealand, Ratu Inoke Kubuabola, to the Prime Minister of the Republic of Vanuatu, Honourable Alatoi Ishmael Kalsakau, in Port Vila, Vanuatu.
The meeting took place at the margins of the 12th Conference of the Pacific Community (SPC) which was hosted by Vanuatu. Fiji was represented at this conference by High Commissioner Kubuabola.
Prime Minister Kalsakau welcomed High Commissioner Kubuabola to Vanuatu and thanked him for the timely discussions that reflect the warm relations and strengthened cooperation between the two nations.
High Commissioner Kubuabola congratulated Prime Minister Kalsakau on the successful elections and his appointment as Vanuatu’s Prime Minister.
He conveyed his best wishes to Prime Minister Kalsakau for his new leadership role, with assurances of Fiji’s continued support for the Pacific family.
Fiji’s commitment to further the partnership between the two nations through the close collaboration of our missions based in Canberra, Australia and Wellington, New Zealand, was reaffirmed at the meeting.
It also provided an opportunity to look at the current areas of engagement while discussing the potential development cooperation agreement to solidify the Fiji-Vanuatu partnership.
Discussions also centred on regional solidarity, including the progress of the implementation work on the 2050 Strategy for a Blue Pacific Continent, which is now the founding document for the Pacific’s regional development, including the Pacific’s engagement with development partners.
