The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) today accorded a welcoming ceremony for the new Assistant Minister for Foreign Affairs Honourable Lenora Qereqeretabua and the Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs, Dr. Lesikimacuata Korovavala.
Hon. Qereqeretabua’s appointment signifies a milestone achievement in Fiji’s foreign services with the first ever female Assistant Minister appointed to the role.
With Dr Korovavala’s appointment, the Ministry now has a Permanent Secretary based full time at the Ministry headquarters.
These important appointments reflect on the People’s Coalition Government’s commitment to establish a strong leadership to advance Fiji’s interests at the international and regional arena.
The Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs, Honourable Sitiveni Rabuka congratulated the Honourable Assistant Minister and the Permanent Secretary and wished them well in their new role. He also acknowledged the work of the Ministry staff and those serving at the Fiji Missions abroad who also attended the welcoming ceremony via virtual mode.
It was an opportunity for Fiji Missions to provide an overview of their work and also seek the guidance of the new leadership Team at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
In her remarks, Hon. Qereqeretabua thanked the Honourable Prime Minister and the people of Fiji for their confidence in her ability to assume the new leadership role. Hon. Qereqeretabua reaffirmed her commitment to perform to the best of her abilities to serve the nation and promote excellence in Fiji’s foreign services.
She also extended her appreciation to the MFA Team for the work done so far and looks forward to working closely with them to take the Ministry’s work to newer heights.
In his remarks, Dr Korovavala thanked the Honourable Prime Minister and the Honourable Assistant Minister for their exemplary leadership and support.
He said it’s a great honour for him to join the civil service and he looks forward to further enhancing Fiji’s interests globally and regionally.
Dr Korovavala reassured the MFA Team of his continued support and to working closely with them, with the guidance of our Honourable Prime Minister, Honourable Assistant Minister and the Government of Fiji.
