Leaders of the Pacific attending the Tenth Pacific Island Leaders Meeting (PALM10) were hosted to a banquet by the Japanese Prime Minister Hon. Fumio Kishida at the State Guest House, Akasaka Palace, Tokyo.
In his remarks, Prime Minister Kishida stated the efforts made by Japan and the Pacific Islands Region over the past 27 years to realize a resilient and stable region since the establishment of PALM in 1997.
He expressed his determination to elevate the relationship between Japan and the region to even greater heights and work together for the future on the occasion of the commemorative PALM10, which is held amidst an increasingly complex environment surrounding the region.
Prior to the banquet, the leaders had the opportunity to meet with Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako at the Imperial Palace.
The PALM10 Summit will take place tomorrow Thursday 18th July 2024, providing leaders the opportunity to further strengthen the forum’s vision for a resilient Pacific region of peace, harmony, security, social inclusion, and prosperity.
In building a stronger and resilient Pacific, the PALM10 Summit will also be an opportunity to renew the PALM partnership between Japan and the Pacific countries, to work together in ensuring that all Pacific people can lead free, healthy and productive lives.
Discussions at the Summit will also focus on harmonising the implementation of the PIF Leaders’ 2050 Strategy for a Blue Pacific Continent, for climate action, environment, people-centered economic development, and technology and connectivity.
