The Ministry of Foreign Affairs Team joined the government officials in paying their respect at the late Dr. Tupeni Lebaivalu Baba’s funeral service that was held at Nadaro village in Tailevu, this week.
Dr. Baba had a distinguished career as Fiji’s pioneer academic and seasoned diplomat having represented Fiji at the global and regional forums.
As the Minister for Foreign Affairs and External Trade in 1999, Dr. Baba contributed remarkably towards the advancement of Fiji’s foreign services and diplomacy, and represented Fiji’s interests at the international and regional arena.
His tenacity in the face of difficulties and his unwavering dedication to improving society has left a lasting impression on Fiji and the Pacific.
The Ministry pays tribute to Dr. Baba for his commitment to the advancement of Fiji’s foreign services and the development aspirations of our nation and his dedication to duty above all else, always calling for progress and change, always calling us to be better – to do better.
Dr. Baba’s legacy is now carried forward by his daughter, Ms. Melania Baba who is walking in her father’s footsteps to serve the nation.
She is currently serving as the First Secretary at Fiji’s High Commission in Wellington, New Zealand.
The Ministry acknowledges Dr. Baba’s outstanding services to the nation, and we convey our heartfelt condolences to Professor Unaisi Baba and her family for their loss.
