A traditional welcoming ceremony was accorded this morning to the President of the Republic of India, Her Excellency Droupadi Murmu, as she undertakes her first State visit to Fiji this week from 5-7 August, 2024.
The first of such visit by the Indian Head of State to Fiji and the Pacific region, represents a historical occasion and milestone achievement in the long-standing and friendly relations between Fiji and India. The visit is an opportunity to strengthen the bilateral relations and partnership in mutual areas of interest to the two nations.
In her remarks, H.E. President Smt. Droupadi Murmu conveyed her heartfelt appreciation to the people and Government of Fiji for the kind hospitality and welcome, and said that she felt like she was at home. She also reaffirmed India’s commitment to further advance the development cooperation with Fiji and the Pacific region.
At the ceremony, H.E. President Smt. Droupadi Murmu was accompanied by the Prime Minister Honourable Sitiveni Rabuka, and in attendance were also the cabinet ministers and members of the diplomatic corps.
