His Excellency President Ratu Wiliame Maivalili Katonivere today (10/10/24) officiated the Fiji Day national celebration at Subrail Park in Labasa.
The event was attended by members of Parliament, Members of the Diplomatic Corps, and thousands of citizens from across Vanua Levu, with some travelling from Viti Levu.
Labasa had last hosted the Fiji Day celebrations in 2018.
Today’s celebration marked the nation’s 54th year of independence, commemorating October 10th, 1970. The highlight of the event was a military parade, which His Excellency reviewed and concluded with a 21-gun salute.
The day ended with a reception hosted by His Excellency, followed by the Beating of the Retreat and the national flag’s lowering, signifying the celebration’s close.
