The Ambassador of Ecuador accredited to Fiji, Dr. Arturo Cabrera, currently based in Canberra, visited the Fiji Ministry of Foreign Affairs and met with Director Multilateral Affairs Bureau, Ms. Keleni Seruvatu to discuss bilateral issues.
In their discussions, the Ambassador appraised the Ministry of the current and proposed initiatives for Ecuador and Fiji, and the great potential for future close bilateral collaboration.
Discussions focused on bilateral engagements in key sectors such as:
✅️Agriculture,
✅️Fisheries,
✅️Scientific Research,
✅️Air Services Agreements and
✅️Visa Agreements
Director Multilateral, Ms. Seruvatu, whose division also oversees engagements with the Latin America region, welcomed the visit by the Ambassador, and the proposed areas of engagements. Ms. Seruvatu further stated that the Latin America region, remains a key region for development cooperation with #Fiji, as well as the #Pacific.
Ecuador is home to the Amazon rainforest with vast biodiversity. It can assist with Fiji’s own climate change and biodiversity initiatives, and programming.
Ms. Seruvatu acknowledged that multilateral engagements with #Ecuador have been consistent through our mutual membership of key Forums at the United Nations (UN).
However, the potential for bilateral cooperation is great.
Discussions also centered on engagements within the region and the Pacific Island Forum processes.
The Ambassador of Ecuador will continue to work closely with the Ministry in facilitating bilateral engagements with Fiji and the Latin America region.🇫🇯🇪🇨🤝
