Fiji through the Fiji Ministry of Foreign Affairs was represented at the 2025 Korea-Pacific Islands Inter-Sessional Meeting held this week in Seoul, Republic of Korea from 4-6 February, 2025.
The delegation from Fiji was led by the Director Asia and Middle-East Bureau of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Josefa Tuima and accompanied by the Principal Foreign Service Officer, Ms. Arieta Latianara.
The meeting provided a platform for senior officials from the Pacific Islands Forum member states to review the achievements made since the last Leaders meeting held in 2023 and to prepare for the 6th Korea – Pacific Islands Foreign Ministers’ Meeting scheduled for later in the year.
Discussions during the meeting focused on several key issues, including advancing regional peace and prosperity, strengthening regionalism, and deepening collaboration on crucial matters such as climate change, development cooperation, maritime affairs and connectivity.
Fiji expressed its gratitude to the Republic of Korea for the opportunity to participate in this important deliberations, highlighting the significant role that such dialogue platforms provide in shaping the region’s future. Further, Fiji reaffirmed its commitment to continue working collaboratively on issues of common aspirations to build a resilient, stronger and sustainable future for the Pacific family and broader global community.
The inaugural Korea-Pacific Islands Summit in May 2023, symbolizes a historic accomplishment in elevation of the strategic partnership between Republic of Korea and the Pacific region. In addition to policy dialogue with the Forum, Korea actively provides development cooperation through various projects at the bilateral, multi-country and regional levels.
With the conclusion of a successful meeting in Korea this week, Fiji looks forward to continued dialogue and collaboration with Korea and the Forum member states in solidifying partnerships aimed at achieving economic resilience, regional peace and security.
