
High Commissioner Vuidreketi presents his credentials to the governor general and commander-in-chief of Canada

The Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs, Dr. Raijeli Taga received a courtesy call from the Regional Representative of the United Nations Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) Regional Office for the Pacific (ROP) Ms. Heike Alefsen. This meeting marked 20th year of the UNOCHR Pacific regional office establishment in Suva in 2005.
The Deputy Representative at OHCHR Regional Office Mr. Thomas Hunecke accompanied Ms. Alefsen to the meeting convened at the Fiji Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) headquarters in Suva.
During the meeting, Dr. Raijeli Taga extended appreciation on behalf of the Government of Fiji to the United Nations Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (UNOHCHR) for the continued support and collaboration.
Dr. Taga said the Ministry looks forward to working closely with OHCHR Regional Office in Suva to advance cooperation in human rights, good governance, peace and security which are central to national development and prosperity.
In conclusion, OHCHR Regional Representative – Ms. Heike Alefsen reaffirmed the continued commitment to working closely with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Fiji, in deepening engagements in good governance, gender equality, security, justice, democracy, the rule of law, and the right to a clean, healthy, and sustainable environment.
Ms. Alefsen further noted that both UNOHCHR and Fiji are deeply involved in joint efforts to strengthen human rights principles in the country, and in the Pacific region.
