The Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs Dr Raijeli Taga welcomed the non-resident Ambassador of Finland to Fiji, H.E. Mr. Arto Haapea, during a courtesy call at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs headquarters in Suva, earlier this week.
Dr Taga in her remarks congratulated Ambassador Haapea and conveyed the Ministry’s best wishes as he assumes his new diplomatic role. She reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to work collaboratively with the Embassy of Finland in Canberra Australia to advance the bilateral relations to new levels, between Fiji and Finland.
Dr Taga acknowledged Finland’s ongoing cooperation with Fiji through the European Union (EU), stating that there are potential opportunities to further strengthen the engagements.
The EU and Fiji have cooperation in a wide range of areas covering climate change, oceans governance, sustainable development, renewable energy, economy and trade, human rights and rule of law, peace and security.
Ambassador Haapea reasserted Finland’s commitment to enhance partnership with Fiji in promoting sustainable development through addressing common challenges and optimizing opportunities ahead. He expressed his appreciation to the Fiji Government for the support provided during his visit to Fiji this week to present his credentials to the President of the Republic of Fiji, His Excellency Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu at the State House.
