Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs Hon. Sitiveni Rabuka will undertake official visits to Singapore and Indonesia this week.
At the invitation of the Singaporean and Indonesian governments, the visits are part of Fiji’s ongoing efforts to deepen bilateral relations and explore new avenues for cooperation across sectors of shared interest.
In his first official visit to Singapore as Head of the Coalition Government, Prime Minister Rabuka will meet with Prime Minister Lawrence Wong to discuss strengthening economic ties between the two countries and, at the same time, explore ways to work together on shared priorities for regional and global development.
Fiji and Singapore have maintained strong diplomatic relations since establishing formal ties in 1971.
Their strong relationship is based on mutual respect and collaboration, with Singapore being a valued development partner to Fiji in critical areas, such as climate resilience, education, trade, digital innovation and capacity building.
In Indonesia, PM Rabuka will meet with His Excellency the President, Mr Prabowo Subianto, where discussions will focus on enhancing the Fiji-Indonesia cooperation in key areas such as regional security, education, agriculture, and disaster risk management, to mention just a few.
Indonesia and Fiji have maintained a warm diplomatic relationship since the establishment of formal ties in 1974.
PM Rabuka is also expected to engage in a series of official side events as part of the visits.
Prime Minister Rabuka’s visits to the two countries reaffirm the Coalition Government’s commitment to advancing Fiji’s foreign policy priorities, strengthening regional partnerships, and creating new opportunities for economic growth and collaboration across the Asia-Pacific.
Meanwhile, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Tourism and Civil Aviation Hon. Viliame Gavoka will be acting Prime Minister while Hon. Rabuka is away on official travel.
