Fiji’s Ambassador to the Republic of Indonesia Amenatave Yauvoli, as part of his consular engagements across Indonesia visited 14 Fijian citizens working as crew for the Nauru shipping container vessel, Micronesian Pride, at their dry dock base in Cirebon, Indonesia.
The vessel crew have been in Indonesia for the past two months as the container vessel undergoes maritime maintenance repairs and sea worthiness tests before setting sail for Fiji in early June.
The Fijian citizens have been hosted by Ambassador Yauvoli and the Mission staff in Jakarta on a number of occasions and are in high spirits. Ship engineer Oscar Whippy said the Ambassador’s visit was a welcome one as Indonesia has become a home away from home for them and meeting and spending time with fellow Fiji citizens abroad was always a joyous occasion.
Ambassador Yauvoli said the welfare of Fiji citizens abroad is always paramount to the Mission and the crew have been exemplary Ambassadors of Fiji in promoting Fiji and fostering greater people to people links which is an important feature of Fiji-Indonesia relations leading up to the 50th anniversary of bilateral relations this June.
In a similar occasion, Ambassador Yauvoli also visited the Fiji Police officers attending the International Management of Serious Crime (IMOSC) program at the prestigious Jakarta Centre for Law Enforcement Cooperation (JCLEC) in Semarang, Indonesia on Thursday 30th May, 2024.
The law enforcement officers are Inspector Simione Tuivanuavou, Inspector Osea Tunidau and Inspector Asipeli Waqa who arrived in early May to undergo this valuable capacity-building training designed to enhance law enforcement capabilities in combating terrorism and transnational crime which ends on 31 May, 2024.
The JLEC is a collaborative international exchange hub set up by the Indonesia National Police (INP) and the Australian Federal Police (AFP) to foster international policing cooperation on contemporary policing challenges and this initiative supports our law enforcement cooperation with the Republic of Indonesia, and in doing so contributes to the further strengthening of Fiji-Indonesia bilateral cooperation on the eve of our 50th anniversary of bilateral relations.
