Australia has reaffirmed its commitment to Vuvale Partnership for Fiji’s development and regional prosperity. This has been conveyed at the occasion of the the Australia Day program organised yesterday by the Australian High Commission to mark the Australia National Day which is commemorated on the Tuesday 26th January 2021.
In attendance at the program was President of the Republic of Fiji, His Excellency Major General Jioji Konusi Konrote, Honourable Prime Minister Josaia Voreqe Bainimarama, Honourable Speaker of Parliament, His Excellency Ratu Epeli Nailatikau and the Cabinet Ministers and Members of Parliament along with Members of the Diplomatic Corps.
In conveying his message at this occasion, Australian High Commissioner to Fiji, His Excellency John Feakes commended the Fijian Government for its exemplary response to tackle the current challenges associated with COVID 19.
“In terms of tackling health challenges, Fiji has fared among the best in the world. Decisive leadership taking tough decisions early on has marked Fiji’s response.
“I commend the leadership of PM Bainimarama and his ministers. And I applaud the dedication and selflessness of the Fijian health officials and security personnel who are keeping Fiji safe.”
Ambassador Feakes said that Australia is proud to have backed Fiji’s COVID19 response and efforts are now turning to work with Fiji to prepare for a safe and effective vaccine campaign.
Reflecting on the recent assistance given to Fiji in the aftermath of TC Yasa, Ambassador Feakes said that Australia will never forget the assistance by the Bula Force and in response Australia is proud to respond in Fiji’s hour of need by sending in HMAS Adelaide to support Fiji’s efforts to repair schools and provide humanitarian assistance.
“In face of unprecedented times, our two countries have shown we are resilient and we are adaptable. In times when we have needed support we have been there for each other. We have placed a premium on partnership.”
Ambassador Feakes also congratulated Fiji on its election to the Presidency of the Human Rights Council.
PM Bainimarama had conveyed a congratulatory message to the Australian Prime Minister, Honourable Scott Morrison for the occasion of the Australia National Day.
In a congratulatory letter conveyed to his counterpart, PM Bainimarama said Fiji and Australia’s bilateral relations have soared to greater heights through the Vuvale Partnership with strengthened people to people links and elevated engagements and cooperation between the two nations.
PM Bainimarama said that the Australian Government’s swift assistance to Fiji in the aftermath of Tropical Cyclone Yasa, is a true reflection of the Vuvale Partnership.
