FIJI-AUSTRALIA DISCUSS OPPORTUNITIES TO ADVANCE VUVALE PARTNERSHIP

A technical mission team from the Brazil Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Brazil Cooperation Agency concluded a three-day visit to Fiji undertaking discussions with relevant Government Agencies, on key areas of cooperation.
The Mission started with a courtesy call on the Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs, Dr. Lesikimacuata Korovavala where they expressed their desire to increase contact and engagement with the Fiji Government.
Their discussions revolved around developments in agriculture, renewable energy, disaster relief, climate change adaptations in Fiji and the Pacific region, and future collaboration with the region through the Pacific Islands Forum (PIF) and the Pacific Islands Development Forum.
They also discussed opportunities for further collaboration between Fiji and Brazil.
Director of the Department of Japan, the Korean Peninsula and the Pacific Mr Paulo Elias Martins de Moraes said their first visit to Fiji has been productive with significant partnerships identified for expanding relations in areas such as agriculture, health, culture, among others.
He said they will follow up on these exploratory contacts in the coming months.
Brazil’s technical mission held consultations yesterday with Government Ministries in Agriculture, Education, Health, Culture Disaster Management, Sugar and Youth & Sports.
They expressed their appreciation to the Team at the Fiji Ministry of Foreign Affairs for their support. Brazil is the largest country in South America, and is home to 60 percent of the Amazon Basin which contains biodiverse ecosystems providing essential services regionally and globally.
Fiji and Brazil established diplomatic relations in 2006, and signed two Memorandum of Understanding (MOUs) on Technical Cooperation in 2013 and on Political Consultation in 2014.
Brazil and Fiji signed a visa-exemption Agreement in 2016.
