The Assistant Minister for Foreign Affairs, Hon. Lenora Qereqeretabua met with the Vice-Chairman of the 13th Central Committee of China Democratic League, Vice-Chairman of the Guangdong Chinese People’s Consultative Conference Committee (CPCCC) Mr. Wang Xuecheng, during his official visit to Fiji this week.
The meeting held at the Fiji Ministry of Foreign Affairs headquarters in Suva, highlighted the cooperation between the two nations with special mention of the recent collaboration in the health sector through the provision of free eye surgeries provided this week at the Colonial War Memorial Hospital (CWMH) by the medical team, all the way from the People’s Republic of China.
This initiative is part of China’s bilateral cooperation with Fiji in vital areas such as infrastructure, health, education, agriculture and fisheries, capacity building, and cultural promotion.
The Chinese delegation expressed their gratitude for the kind hospitality extended to them during their visit and enthusiasm to expand practical cooperation, given Fiji’s strategic role in the region.
The meeting highlighted China’s interest to further deepen cooperation with Fiji through initiatives including sister-city collaboration, senior official visits, and people-to-people exchanges.
Hon. Qereqeretabua acknowledged the delegation for their commitment to further strengthen diplomatic relations and cooperation with Fiji.
In response, Mr. Wang expressed optimism about the continued growth of the friendship and partnership, further stating that his visit to Fiji is an opportunity to explore avenues to advance bilateral relations and cooperation on issues of importance to both nations.
