All documents included in this Lost or Stolen Passport Checklist can be submitted online and then sent to our office in Canberra, and this can be done in person or posted in.
If you are travelling on a Fijian passport to Fiji, this requirement of having a six months validity on your passport does not apply for you.
Please be advised that non-Fijian passport holders intending to travel to Fiji are required to have their passports valid for 6 months from their intended date of arrival into Fiji. If the validity of your passport is less than 6 months you will not be permitted to travel to Fiji.
In exceptional and extenuating circumstances, persons who can demonstrate that it is not possible to have their passports renewed prior to their intended date of travel may submit an application for a 6-months passport validity waiver to enter Fiji. The application and fees should be submitted at least 2 weeks prior to departure. Please note that waiver approvals are not guaranteed and are granted on a case-by-case basis, in exceptional circumstances only. The Waiver fee is non-refundable. The relevant documents can be posted or lodged personally in our office.

An emergency passport (Certificate of Identity) has a fee of $201.
Along with the fee, an applicant will need a letter stating the reasons for emergency travel, an expired or damaged passport, documentary evidence for the reason to travel (e.g. doctor’s certificate for sick relative), and a copy of any Australian Government-issued photo ID that has been certified by an Australian Justice of Peace.
If passport is lost or stolen, a police advice slip or report that proves that the loss of passport has been reported.

Patients need to submit the following to Ministry of Health Officials in Fiji for further consideration and feedbacks:
- The doctors letter stating reason for use of the medicine. (signed)
- Copy of the prescription.
- Dates of travel in and out of Fiji.

Fiji citizenship can be acquired by:
- Birth
- Registration
- Naturalisation
Citizenship by registration covers six categories of individuals.
The first category covers children born outside Fiji islands on or after 10th April 2009 if at the date of the child’s birth either of the Child’s parents was a citizen – section 8(1) of the Citizenship of Fiji Decree 2009.
The local term is Registration of Minor. The Fiji High Commission, Canberra office handles all applications outside of NSW for this category and all Dual Citizenship applications.
The Fiji Department of Immigration website will detail all other categories.
The process is in 2 parts, the first being the registration of the minor as a Fiji citizen then the issuance of the minor’s passport. This can be submitted simultaneously.

To apply for citizenship of Fiji, you’ll need:
- Completed citizenship application form
- Certificate A (attached to citizenship application form)
- Completed passport application form with JP signature and stamp as witness
- 5 Passport photos – 2 certified by same JP witnessing passport application form stating “I certify that this photograph is a true likeness of “applicant name”
- Proof of parents’ citizenship – e.g., Fiji passport
- Original copies or certified copies of parents’ documentation confirming child’s parentage. The checklist will also list all necessary documentation required to be submitted with applications.

The minimum processing turnaround time is 3 months.

A foreign national can apply for Fiji citizenship if he or she has been lawfully present in Fiji for a total of five (5) of the ten (10) years immediately before the application is made. With the introduction of the multiple citizenship policy applicants do NOT need to renounce their other citizenship – Section 11 (2) of the Citizenship of Fiji Decree 2009.

The Fiji Government recognises the existence of dual nationality and permits ex-Fiji citizens under Part 5, clause 14 of the Citizenship of Fiji Decree 2009 to re-apply for Fiji citizenship.
Former Fiji citizens who have become naturalised citizens of another country can apply for Fiji citizenship.
The two main purposes for proposing Dual Citizenship are:
- To entice Fiji Diaspora to return and invest in Fiji; and/or
- To return and retire gracefully at home
Dual Citizenship applications are handled at the Fiji High Commission, Canberra. Standard checks are conducted in Canberra before the applications are forwarded to Fiji for processing.

A fee of *AUD$2,233.00 includes the processing, registration of citizenship and the issuance of the citizenship certificate upon approval, the Oath of Affirmation and the issuance of a new Fiji passport.
