INDIA REAFFIRMS COMMITMENT TO THE PACIFIC REGION

The partnership between European Union (EU) Member States and Fiji continues to grow from strength to strength.
This message was conveyed during the Europe Day celebrations commemorated on the French Navy Vessel Dixmude, yesterday evening in Suva.
A reception organized by the Delegation of the European Union for the Pacific was attended by Prime Minister Honourable Sitiveni Rabuka. Cabinet ministers and other senior government officials as well as members of the diplomatic corps.
It commemorated the friendly ties and longstanding collaboration between Fiji and the European Union. While delivering Fiji’s message at the occasion, the Acting Chief of Protocol Ms. Rosa Dalituicama said, “Fiji is proud of its long-standing relations with the European Union. Our close cooperation in addressing global, regional and national issues provides a firm foundation for a long future of peaceful cooperation.” “Fiji celebrates alongside our friends in the European Union, this very special day 73 years ago, marking the anniversary of the historic “Schuman Declaration” and the values of peace and cooperation among states in Europe.”
Fiji and EU have also reaffirmed shared commitment to enhance economic development cooperation over the coming years.
At the occasion, the Fiji Government also acknowledged the contributions of the EU in Fiji and the Pacific. Meanwhile, the French Navy Dixmude vessel carries a crew of French sailors, 160 cadets, an amphibious flotilla, 2 helicopter detachments and a tactical group from the French Army. The vessel departs Fiji on Thursday. They recently completed a 10 day training off the coast of New Caledonia which also included Fiji Navy Patrol Boat, RFNS Savenaca. The training consisted of humanitarian assistance and disaster and emergency responses.
