Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has acknowledged Australia’s partnership in the areas of border and cyber security and defence.
This was articulated by the Prime Minister in a bilateral meeting with Australia’s Minister for Home Affairs and Cyber Security Hon.Clare O’Neil at Parliament House in Canberra.
The Prime Minister said that the new Fiji-Australia Memorandum of Understanding on Cyber Security Cooperation will provide the necessary framework for the two countries to work together to address emerging threats.
It was announced in the Australian Parliament that Fiji will be part of a new e-visa streamline pilot program; a project that will require close coordination and collaborative effort from both countries, particularly in the area of software and application service.
For this, Prime Minister Rabuka added that the program will make the visa experience better for travellers.
While this initiative requires a level of coordination and re-alignment, he stated that it does provide a more streamlined, application service and therefore, benefits our people to people relations.
Hon. Rabuka acknowledged Fiji and Australia’s longstanding relations and looks forward to further increasing our engagements through the Vuvale Partnership.
Hon. O’Neil thanked the Prime Minister for the opportunity to meet, saying Australia looks forward to working with Fiji in strengthening national cyber security initiatives, and fortifying our industries’ infrastructure and people from cyber attacks, among other important things.
