The strengthened relations between Fiji and the European Union Member States has been recognised at the Europe Day 2022 commemorated in this week. The Europe Day program organised on Monday 9th May by the Delegation of the European Union for the Pacific was attended by the President of the Republic of Fiji, His Excellency Ratu Wiliame Maivalili Katonivere, Prime Minister, Josaia Voreqe Bainimarama, senior government officials and members of the Diplomatic Corps.
While delivering Fiji’s message at the occasion, the Chief of Protocol Mr. Jiko Rasoqosoqo said, “We convey our warm congratulations, and best wishes to the people of the European Union, for this important milestone. “May I kindly recount here with you, the sentiments conveyed by the Prime Minister – Honourable Josaia Voreqe Bainimarama in his Congratulatory Message to His Excellency Mr. Charles Michel, and I quote: “I extend to you and the people of Europe and the European Union Member States best wishes, on the auspicious occasion of Europe Day.
“We celebrate alongside our friends and allies in the European Union this special day, marking the anniversary of the historic Schuman Declaration” and the values of peace, cooperation among States, in Europe.” “Fiji is proud of its long-standing relations with the European Union, and I look forward to the next chapter of our friendship, marked by the New Partnership Agreement that will pave the way for our enhanced political, economic and development cooperation over the next 20 years.”
The Prime Minister praised European Union Member States, and its people for their enduring strength and resolve amidst the current crisis and conveyed warm wishes for their continued success and prosperity.
Ambassador of the European Union to Fiji and the Pacific, His Excellency Mr. Sujiro Seam acknowledged the cordial relations between Fiji and EU, which continued to strengthen over the years.
He reaffirmed EU’s solidarity with Fiji and the region for the advancement of regional prosperity and peace.
