The commemoration of the remarkable milestone of 50th anniversary of Fiji and Indonesia’s bilateral relations reflected a legacy of cooperation, shared accomplishments and commitment for the future, guided by collaboration, mutual respect and friendship.
This was the key message delivered during the Fun Walk program convened yesterday from Albert Park to Suzuki Park along Queen Elizabeth Drive in Suva.
The event was jointly organized by the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia, and the Fiji-Indonesia Friendship Association. It was attended by members of the Diplomatic Corps, representatives from the Government of Fiji, and members of the Indonesian Scholarships for Fiji alumni, students, families, and friends.
The Acting President of the Republic of Fiji, Acting Chief Justice, His Lordship Salesi Temo, and the Indonesian Ambassador to Fiji, His Excellency Dupito D. Simamora, delivered brief remarks to formalise the commemoration of the friendship event.
Ambassador Simamora said this walk symbolizes the fruitful journey of the bilateral relationship between the two nations, which also aimed to bring communities together to celebrate it and pledge for deepening friendship and collaboration for the years to come.
Ambassador Simamora noted that as the two nations embark on the next chapter of our relations, we are united in our commitment to a future of deeper engagement, shared prosperity, and enduring friendship. Looking ahead, both countries reaffirm their commitment to enhancing cooperation in agriculture, capacity building, development assistance and new initiatives that will catalyse socio-economic development, and social progress.
Since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1974, Indonesia and Fiji have cooperated in various areas of mutual interest such as economy and trade, cultural exchanges, and regional cooperation, amongst others.
