The Minister for Housing and Local Government, Hon. Maciu Nalumisa, believes that delegates from Pacific Island States (PICs) attending COP28 at Expo City Dubai, gained great insight from the Decarbonization Program and models for Net Zero cities.
Minister Nalumisa said that the learnings and achievements of Expo City, greatly enforce its role as a responsible member of, and contributor to, the United Arab Emirates and global community, as hosts of COP28 and beyond.
Minister Nalumisa and the First Secretary of the Republic of Fiji Embassy in Abu Dhabi, Sanaila Laqai, were invited participants at a panel discussion that focused on the UAE’s plan to achieve its long-term goal of net zero carbon emissions by 2050, as well as its shorter-term targets for 2030 and 2040.
These targets align with the Global Protocol for Community-Scale Greenhouse Gas Inventories (GPC) and follow the relevant guidance of the Science Based Targets Network (SBTN).
Chief of Sustainability, Expo City Dubai, Matt Brown, said, “Expo City Dubai is a blueprint for sustainable urban living, committed to maximising its social, environmental and economic impact and whereby country delegates attending COP28 can also learn from their city models to help to further help address climate change challenges in their respective countries”.
“Our roadmap integrates decarbonisation across every aspect of our business and city, enhancing existing policies and programmes and introducing new initiatives with a regenerative mindset, and that taking care of our planet and each other is embedded in our culture.”
“As our city grows, we will engage every tenant, resident, and visitor in our journey, exploring synergies and new opportunities and maximising prospective benefits,” Mr. Brown added.
