Dubai, 2 Dec 2023 – A significant milestone was achieved today as Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka and H.E. Ahmed Ali Al Sayegh, the UAE’s Minister of State to the UAE Cabinet, officially inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on Political Consultations.
The MOU solidifies a commitment to fortify diplomatic ties between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Fiji and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
The primary objective of this MOU is to establish a robust mechanism for regular political consultations and the exchange of views between the two nations on regional and international matters of shared interest.
The accord aims to provide a structured framework for Fiji and the UAE to engage in open and constructive dialogue, enhancing their collaboration on key geopolitical issues.
Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka emphasised the importance of the agreement, stating; “This Memorandum of Understanding marks a pivotal moment in our diplomatic relations with the United Arab Emirates. It underscores our joint commitment to fostering deeper understanding, cooperation, and collaboration on political matters that impact our respective nations and the wider international community.” H.E. Ahmed Ali Al Sayegh echoed these sentiments, expressing optimism about the strengthened ties resulting from the MOU.
He remarked, “The MOU on Political Consultations is a testament to the shared vision of Fiji and the UAE in navigating the complex geopolitical landscape. It provides a structured platform for both nations to engage in meaningful discussions and consultations, fostering closer collaboration on matters of regional and global significance.”
