The diplomatic cooperation between Fiji and the United Kingdom (UK) continues to strengthen with phase three of their strategic communications partnership.
This development was highlighted during a recent meeting between the Deputy British High Commissioner, Nicola Noble, UK Government Communications Service representatives, and the new Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs, Dr Raijeli Taga.
The meeting focused on expanding strategic communications cooperation to address common challenges facing both nations in the increasingly complex public communication landscape. This partnership builds upon the existing strong bilateral relationship between Fiji and the UK, which is founded on deep historical and cultural connections.
Dr Taga welcomed the UK delegation, which included communications specialists from London. The meeting assessed progress made during previous phases of the partnership and outlined objectives for this next stage of collaboration.
She thanked the British High Commission and the UK delegation for their incredible support and partnership. She reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to further strengthen engagements through initiatives aimed at promoting stronger bilateral relations and cooperation between Fiji and the UK.
The third phase of the partnership will continue to focus on capability building and professional development and will help develop Fiji’s communications to become more resilient in a rapidly changing world, drawing on frameworks such as the UK’s RESIST model, which helps governments counter disinformation.
This partnership underscores the commitment of both governments to collaborate for mutual benefit as outlined in Fiji’s Foreign Policy White Paper, launched in September 2024.
