ermanent Secretary for the Office of the Prime Minister, Mr Yogesh Karan, attended the Ministerial Meeting of the Group of Friends of the Global Development Initiative (GDI) chaired by the Foreign Affairs Minister of China State Councillor, Mr Wang Yi, along the margins of the 77th Session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York yesterday (21/09/22).
The event, hosted by the Government of China, brought together representatives of 60 Member States that have common goals to strengthen global efforts in order to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals. On behalf of the Prime Minister and the Fijian people, PS Karan acknowledged the Government of China for its considerable assistance and support rendered to the Fijian communities particularly to improve our food security and reduce poverty.
Under this Global Development Initiative, Fiji has been assisted with the Juncao Technology Demonstration Centre-Phase III and secured emergency ammonium sulfate fertiliser.
PS Karan said that the Global Development Initiative is an important platform for addressing common challenges and accelerating the transition to a more sustainable and inclusive future. Deputy Secretary-General of the UN, Amina Mohammed, and the administration of the United Nations Development Program, Achim Steiner, and Ministers and senior officials also attended the event.
