Korea Offers Further Assistance for Fiji in COVID-19 Battle

The support provided by Fiji’s development partners was acknowledged at the Donor Coordinating Committee Meeting held virtually between Fijian Government officials and the Heads of Diplomatic Missions, International Organisations and Donor Partner representatives.
In attendance at the meeting was Permanent Secretary, Office of the Prime Minister and Acting Permanent Secretary Foreign Affairs, Yogesh Karan, Permanent Secretary for Health and Medical Services Dr. James Fong and Acting Permanent Secretary for Economy, Shiri Krishna Gounder.
At the meeting the officials exchanged firsthand information on Fiji’s current COVID-19 response, with an overview on Health protocols and mitigation strategies and updates on the utilisation of donor development assistance and discussions on potential areas of collaboration to win the battle against COVID-19.
Mr. Karan expressed the Fijian Government’s appreciation to all the donor agencies and development partners for the tremendous support rendered to Fiji.
He said working in solidarity remains crucial in mobilising the resources and assistance for Fiji’s health sector and supporting the work of Fiji’s front line workers. Mr Karan stated that Fiji is grateful for all the assistance provided by the international, regional and national development partners.
He stated that Fiji looks forward to further assistance identified through the new COVID-19 Response and Rehabilitation Needs Lists presented at the meeting. The officials also deliberated on the way forward for advancing economic recovery and the restoration of livelihoods.
The development partners reaffirmed their commitment for Fiji’s overall response through provisions of Technical and Capacity Building assistance with the additional Budget Support required.
Diplomatic partners that were present pledged greater collaboration to further complement Fiji’s continued efforts to building back better for economic recovery and the wellbeing of Fijian families.
Development partners and donor agencies also conveyed their appreciation to the Fijian Government for the opportunity to engage and collaborate.
The Donor Coordination Committee was organised by the Office of the Prime Minister together with the Ministry of Health and Medical Services, Ministry of Economy and Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
