Fiji citizenship can be acquired by:

  • Birth
  • Registration
  • Naturalization

Citizenship by Registration.

Citizenship by registration covers six categories of individuals. The first category covers children born outside the Fiji Islands on or after 10th April 2009 if at the date of the child’s birth, either of the Child’s parents was a citizen – section 8(1) of the Citizenship of Fiji Act 2009.
The local term is Registration of Minor.

The process is in 2 parts, the first being the registration of the minor as a Fiji citizen, then the issuance of the minor’s passport. This can be submitted simultaneously.

Documentation

  1. Citizenship Form
  2. Passport Photos (x2) – certified by a JP or Doctor
  3. Certified copy of applicant’s birth certificate
  4. Certified copy of Parent’s passport
  5. Certified copy of Parents marriage certificate
  6. Certified copy of Parent’s Birth certificate
  7. 1x Prepaid courier bag with tracking stickers

Fee(s):

A fee of *NZD$281.00 includes the processing, registration of the minor and the issuance of a new Fiji
passport.

Fees may either be paid through Fiji High Commission bank account or Eftpos payment. Please do not make any transfers until you are being served.

Processing Time:

The minimum processing turnaround time is 4 months.
Delays in processing may occur when the applications submitted are incomplete or require further clarification, additional documentation or verification of documents. Please note we will not be held responsible for any delays by the Department of Immigration in Fiji or any issues with postal and courier services.

Important Reminder:

It is imperative that 2 copies of all documentation including the application form are submitted together with a copy of your checklist. Failure to comply with all requirements may result in the refusal or return of your application.

Citizenship by Naturalisation

A foreign national can apply for Fiji citizenship if he or she has been lawfully present in Fiji for a total of five (5) of the ten (10) years immediately before the application is made. With the introduction of the multiple citizenship policy applicants do NOT need to renounce their other citizenship – Section 11 (2) of the Citizenship of Fiji Act 2009.

Dual Citizenship

The Fiji Government recognizes the existence of dual nationality and permits former-Fiji citizens under Part 5, clause 14 of the Citizenship of Fiji Act 2009 to re-apply for Fiji citizenship.

Criteria:

Former Fiji citizens who have become naturalized citizens of another country can apply for Fiji citizenship.
Standard checks are conducted in Wellington before the applications are forwarded to Fiji for processing.

Documentation:

  1. Citizenship Form
  2. Passport Photos (x2) – certified by a JP.
  3. Certified copy of birth certificate – signed and stamped by the JP.
  4. Certified copy of NZ Passport & FIJI Passport – signed and stamped by the JP.
  5. Certified copy of NZ Citizenship certificate – signed and stamped by the JP.
  6. Certified copy of marriage certificate – (if applicable) signed and stamped by JP
  7. Oath / Affirmation of Allegiance – signed and stamped by a Solicitor or Barrister
  8. Criminal Conviction Records – recent record from Ministry of Justice
  9. 1x Prepaid courier bag with tracking stickers

Fee(s):

A fee of *NZD$2,300.00 includes the processing, registration of citizenship and the issuance of the citizenship certificate upon approval, the Oath of Affirmation and the issuance of a new Fiji passport.

Fees may either be paid through Fiji High Commission bank account or Eftpos payment. Please do not make any transfers until you are being served.
