dvancing economic development through increased investment and trade opportunities, is at the core of #Fiji and #NewZealand’s cooperation.
This was evident at the New Zealand and Fiji Business Council Meeting recently held in Wellington, New Zealand. The inaugural event is a platform promoting #economic, #trade and #investment between the two nations and attended by senior government officials, business communities, investors and diplomatic corps, from around the world.
In his remarks at the occasion, Fiji’s High Commissioner to New Zealand, Ratu Inoke Kubuabola said New Zealand is a key development partner for Fiji and has contributed immensely to Fiji’s economic progress over the years. He said the signing of the Duavata Partnership earlier this year augurs well with Fiji-New Zealand’s commitment to elevate relations and strengthen economic and trade flows.
He added that effective collaboration between investors, financial institutions and relevant stakeholders is imperative as we begin to reframe priorities and drive economic acceleration of key sectors. High Commissioner Kubuabola reaffirmed the Fijian Government’s commitment to work closely with its development partners like New Zealand to collaboratively build a #greener, #bluer and #sustainable future for communities in Fiji and beyond.
He shared reflections from the Pacific Island Forum Leaders Meeting hosted by the Fijian Government this year, where the PIF Chair, Prime Minister Josaia Voreqe Bainimarama and Forum leaders including NZ Prime Minister Honourable Jacinda Ardern endorsed the #2050 Strategy for the Blue #Pacific Continent.
High Commissioner said the Strategy provides a framework to leverage greater opportunities for economic progress in the Pacific region and Fiji looks to its development partners, like New Zealand in the realisation of a unified and prosperous region.
He also outlined the key initiatives of the Fijian Government to promote conducive investment and trade opportunities for the local and foreign investors and businesses.
High Commissioner Kubuabola thanked the New Zealand-Fiji Business Council for the enduring partnership to bolster economic cooperation, amidst global challenges such as the #COVID19 pandemic and #climatechange. He reaffirmed the Fiji High Commission in New Zealand’s commitment to work closely with stakeholders to promote opportunities for higher economic returns and mutual benefit of both the nations and that of our #Pacific region. NZFBC President Chandar Sen in his welcoming remarks, described Ratu Inoke as a strong advocate of #regionalism, sustainable development, with a passion for social work and community development.
“He is a seasoned Fijian politician and diplomat with a career spanning over four decades who helped introduce reforms that shaped Fiji into the modern democratic nation it is today,” said Sen.
