
Fiji and Tonga reaffirm commitment to strengthen relations

The Assistant Minister for Foreign Affairs, Hon. Lenora Qereqeretabua represented Fiji at the 58th session of the Commission on Population and Development (CPD58) of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) being held in New York from 7–11 April 2025.
In delivering Fiji’s national statement at the high-level session this week on Monday 7th April 2025, Hon. Qereqeretabua reaffirmed Fiji Government’s commitment to ensuring women empowerment, elimination of any form of discrimination against women, gender equality, respect for the rights of all women and girls.
Hon. Qereqeretabua highlighted the collective actions taken by Fiji to promote health and wellbeing of Fiji’s population.
Further, she outlined the various programs and policies implemented by Fiji to promote the health and wellbeing of women and girls, and in building healthy population through collaborating closely with development partners in particular UNFPA Pacific Office and the Government of Australia.
Hon. Qereqeretabua asserted that Fiji remains committed to its obligations under multilateralism to enhance the lives of all Fijians, particularly in advancing the health rights of the women through the provision of maternal health services and programs to better lives.
Fiji is among the few Pacific Island nations to participate at this high-level engagement.
