The strengthened cooperation between the People’s Republic of China and Republic of Fiji has yielded capacity building and training opportunities for Fijian students in becoming innovative entrepreneurs through the use of E-commerce, Digital Marketing and Trading platforms.
Organised for the first time for Fiji, the four days training titled “Belt and Road (Fiji) Cross Border E-Commerce Advanced Training” was attended by the Fijian students who are currently pursuing their studies at reputable universities in People’s Republic of China.
Fiji’s Ambassador of Fiji to Beijing, People’s Republic of China, Manasa Tagicakibau said the training complements the Fijian Government’s “Young Entrepreneurship Scheme – the YES Scheme” which provides seed capital for young Fijian entrepreneurs to use digital platforms to accomplish their career into commercial business and investment sector.
Ambassador Tagicakibau said Fiji is committed to working with the People’s Republic of China to capitalise on the bilateral cooperation and economic opportunities that arises through the People’s Republic of China’s vision on building a stronger and united world economy through open and friendly dialogues and easing market access to the world’s largest consumers.
He said the training is an ideal platform to nurture the potentials of many Fijian entrepreneurs who aspire into step in the business industries.
The training has equipped 21 Fijian students with practical skills and knowledge to help them maximise the use of e-commerce in their area of expertise, thereby developing their potential to venture into businesses and economic opportunities that People’s Republic of China offers with its booming digital and technological economy.
The has been made possible through Fiji’s Embassy in Beijing in partnership with the China Association for Trade in Services (CATIS), an organization approved by the Chinese State Council under the arm of the Ministry of Commerce of the People’s Republic of China.
The training concurs with the commitment made through the signing of People’s Republic of China’s Memorandum of Understanding on the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) by Fiji in November 2018.
The training programmes coordinated by CATIS is aligned to the BRI as mandated by the Ministry of Commerce, People’s Republic of China in providing the cross-border e-commerce capacity building as a starting point to promote trade development between People’s Republic of China and developing nations.
The training looked at strategies on developing innovative e-commerce platforms that need low capital investment.
Skills acquired through the training ranges from knowledge on running e-commerce platforms, requirements of having one’s own platform for trading their products, payment methods of selling products online, engaging with the business and clients to secure products through e-commerce, methods of transporting products worldwide, trends of cross border e-commerce industry, features of major e-commerce platforms, law and regulations on e-commerce, tools and technologies available in hosting e-commerce businesses in China and internationally.
Fiji’s Embassy in Beijing will also pursue the next level of e-commerce training for the Fijian students into building e-commerce apps, developing an understanding of supply chain, logistics and People’s Republic of China’s trade mechanisms.
