Fiji’s Mission in Malaysia is working progressively towards broadening its collaboration with the international countries. In line with this objective, Fiji’s High Commissioner to Malaysia and Non-resident Ambassador to Thailand His Excellency, Mr Kolinio Takali presented his credentials to His Majesty King of Thailand, Maha Vajiralongkorn Bodindradebayavarangkun at the Royal Palace in Thailand earlier this month.
High Commissioner Takali conveyed the best wishes of the Fijian Government to the Government of Thailand and spoke highly of the enhanced bilateral collaborations between Fiji and Thailand which has been established upon the visit by Fiji’s Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama to Thailand in 2015.
He said that Fiji will to work towards strengthening cooperation in the areas of agriculture, fisheries, technical cooperation, civil aviation, forestry, commerce, trade and investment.
Following the credential ceremony, High Commissioner Takali held courtesy meetings with a number of Government Ministries and UN Organisations based in Bangkok including the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Thailand International Cooperation Agency, the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives, the Royal Forestry Department, the International Civil Aviation Organisation, the International Telecommunications Union, and Thailand Agarwood Association. He also visited the International Law Enforcement Academy and an organic agarwood plantation in Trat Province.
“Fiji can learn a lot from Thailand’s economic progress and how it has grown to be one of the 5 big economies in Association of the Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). Thailand is also the UN hub for Asia-Pacific and I will actively engage with the UN agencies in Bangkok to continue to push relevant issues like climate change and oceans that are of the national interest to Fiji,” High Commissioner Takali said.
