PRIME MINISTER RABUKA MEETS WITH THE TONGAN COUNTERPART: FIJI-TONGA RELATIONS AFFIRMED

Fiji’s High Commissioner to New Zealand Ratu Inoke Kubuabola presented his credentials to the Premier of Niue, the Hon. Dalton Tagelagi and Cabinet, at the Premier’s Office in Fale Fono II, Halamahaga, marking the commencement of his diplomatic work in Niue as Fiji’s non-resident High Commissioner.
The presentation of credentials follows the signing of formal diplomatic relations between Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs Hon. Sitiveni Rabuka and Premier Dalton Tagelagi at the margins of the Pacific Islands Forum Leaders Meeting (PIFLM) in Cook Islands last year.
During his presentation, the High Commissioner thanked the Niue Government and its people for the genuine warmth it has graciously extended to our small Fijian community in Niue and gave his assurances that he would endeavor to deepen the friendship between Fiji and Niue to their mutual benefit.
High Commissioner Kubuabola will pay courtesy calls on a number of Government Ministers, High Commissions and members of the Fijian community before his return. His visit is also supported by the Mission’s Second Secretary, Mr. Josua Tuwere.
In his welcoming remarks, Premier of Niue, Hon. Dalton Tagelagi said, “We are honoured to welcome His Excellency Ratu Inoke Kubuabola, the esteemed High Commissioner of the Republic of Fiji, on his first visit to Niue as High Commissioner. We are committed to fostering cooperation and prosperity in the Pacific region”.
During his visit, the High Commissioner Kubuabola had a series of meetings with Government Officials, to discuss the prospects for deepened cooperation within the Pacific and beyond.
The occasion illustrates Fiji’s expanded diplomatic footprint in the Pacific and strengthened cooperation between the two nations to advance solidarity and prosperity of the Pacific family.
