France has reasserted its commitment to advance cooperation and support to Fiji’s development priorities in promoting investment and trade, climate change, emergency response and disaster resilience, defence and security, and people-to-people engagements.
This has been affirmed through the visit of the French Regional Director for Indo- Pacific, Mr Marc Pimond. The Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs, Dr Lesikimacuata Korovavala met with Mr. Pimond, the French Embassy and representatives of the French Embassy in Canberra that are responsible for Fiji and the Pacific islands to discuss prospects for strengthening cooperation.
PS Korovavala thanked the delegation for the meaningful discussions that outlined the prospects for opportunities to advance security cooperation and socioeconomic development.
He acknowledged France’s renewed commitment to expand cooperation with the Pacific region, primarily through the European Union’s (EU) Indo-Pacific Strategy.
PS Korovavala said the Ministry will work closely with the French Embassy to further strengthen the Fiji-France relations, shared interests and commitment to promote peace and security, and prosperity.
Mr Pimond reaffirmed France’s commitment to deepen partnership with Fiji, saying his visit has been an opportunity to see how best they can support Fiji’s development priorities and further strengthen regional cooperation.
