A visit from the Global Affairs Canada’s Team to the Fiji Ministry of Foreign Affairs provided a timely opportunity to explore new pathways to further strengthen the bilateral relations between Fiji and Canada.
In a meeting held at the Ministry headquarters in Suva, Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs, Dr. Raijeli Taga welcomed the Director General for Asia Pacific, and Oceania, Global Affairs Canada – Mr. Alan Bowman, who was accompanied by Head of Cooperation, Pacific Island Countries, Global Affairs Canada, Mr. David Fournier and Acting Canadian High Commissioner to Fiji Ms. Jillian Senkiw.
Dr. Taga acknowledged Canada’s current cooperation and highlighted the future prospects to deepen engagements through meaningful dialogue for mutual benefit of two nations and its peoples. The discussions outlined potential partnerships in vital sectors such as trade and investment,
️economic growth,
️climate change and oceans,
people to people links.
The meeting looked at how best the two countries can realign partnership tailored to the development needs, taking into account the evolving global landscape which calls for strategic collaboration between nations to innovate solutions and navigate through common challenges.
Mr Bowman provided an overview on the Global Affairs Canada’s work and reaffirmed Canada’s commitment to further deepen the relations with Fiji. He extended his appreciation to Dr. Taga for the insightful discussions, focused on elevating the bilateral and multilateral cooperation between the two nations.
