Fiji’s Ambassador to the United States of America, H.E Ratu Ilisoni Vuidreketi formally presented his credentials as Fiji’s Non-Resident High Commissioner to Canada, to the Governor General and Commander-in-Chief of Canada Her Excellency the Right Honourable Mary May Simon.
The credentials ceremony took place at Rideau Hall, the official residence of the Governor General.
During the ceremony, High Commissioner Vuidreketi conveyed the kind greetings and appreciation of the President of the Republic of Fiji, His Excellency Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu, the Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hon. Sitiveni Rabuka and the people of Fiji. High Commissioner Vuidreketi emphasized the traditional ties and ongoing cooperation between Fiji and Canada, as Commonwealth nations.
Additionally, High Commissioner Vuidreketi reaffirmed Fiji’s commitment to further enhance the bilateral relations with Canada and explore new opportunities for engagements.
Governor-General Simon conveyed her greetings and best wishes to President Lalabalavu. She welcomed High Commissioner Vuidreketi to Ottawa and wished him well in his diplomatic role. Governor-General Simon affirmed Canada’s commitment to strengthen relations with Fiji.
As development partners, Fiji and Canada aim to solidify partnership in areas such as economy and trade, air connectivity, people to people links, tourism, climate change adaptation and oceans. The two nations also aspire to elevate engagements in promoting common goals on long-term prosperity, peace and security.
High Commissioner Vuidreketi was accompanied to the credential presentation ceremony by his wife, Mrs. Pousima Vuidreketi.
