Your Excellency President Emmanuel Macron,
Excellencies,
Distinguished Guests
Ladies and Gentlemen,
Welcome
1.0 Greetings and Bula Vinaka to you all.
2.0 As incoming President of COP23, I want to recognize your leadership on climate change, Mr. President, and the efforts of France to bring the world the Paris Agreement. It is an historic achievement for humanity. As the incoming Presidency of the COP, I want to assure you that Fiji will do everything in its power to preserve and protect the legacy of the Paris Agreement. We intend to do our part to bring the Paris Agreement to life, by making great strides towards fully implementing it during COP23 so that we are ready for success in COP24.
3.0 The meeting you have convened today is another example of your leadership, and we appreciate your determination and perseverance in making the global environmental legal system coherent. We understand as a small island developing state that we depend on robust, coherent and enforceable global environmental law to protect our citizens against environmental harms.
4.0 As such, we salute your effort, and feel that it is important to always be thinking about how to improve our global governance to meet the challenges we face. We look forward to engaging in this discussion as it moves forward.
5.0 Thank you again, Mr. President, Merci beaucoup! Vinaka!
Vinaka vakalevu and thank you.
