The Assistant Minister for Foreign Affairs, Hon. Lenora Qereqeretabua officiated at the Pacific Community (SPC) Fiji Day celebrations held in Suva on Thursday 17th October 2024.
The Assistant Minister was accorded a traditional welcome by the SPC Team and had the opportunity to also deliver opening remarks at the occasion.
Hon. Qereqeretabua spoke on the importance of Fiji Day celebrations and its significance in nation building and promoting the values of peace, unity and prosperity.
On the same note, the Assistant Ministers said that as a nation our strength is in our solidarity and spirit of compassion to care, understand and respect each other.
Hon. Qereqeretabua reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to promoting sustainable development and national development and economic prosperity through the recently launched National Development Plan 2025-2029 and Vision 2050 – the policy document that will guide the allocation of government resources and the implementation of our development agenda for the next five years, while setting a solid platform for Fiji’s development trajectory over the next 25 years.
At the same time, the Assistant Minister also spoke on the recently launched Fiji’s Foreign Policy White Paper which outlines Government’s foreign policy initiatives, including the ‘Ocean of Peace’, stating that it is the single most significant contribution that Fiji can make to peace and security in our region and the wider community of nations.
In conclusion, Hon. Qereqeretabua thanked SPC Team for organising the Fiji Day program which reflects SPC’s commitment in fostering unity and collaboration among our communities in Fiji and the Pacific region.
The celebrations based on the Fiji Day theme ‘To Heal and Hope’ was attended by the SPC staff and management.
