The collaboration between India’s Public Service Broadcaster Prasar Bharti and Fiji Broadcasting Corporation (FBC) that was formalised through the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for the Exchange of Audio Visual Programmes signed at the India Pacific Sustainable Development Conference in 2017, has yielded positive outcomes with FBC receiving 2 Terabytes Hard Disk containing audio-visual classic cultural programme materials.
The High Commissioner of India, His Excellency, Mr Vishvas Sapkal officially handed over the 2 Terabytes Hard Disk to the Chief Executive Officer, Fiji broadcasting Corporation, Mr Riyaz Sayed-Khaiyum at the FBC office in Suva yesterday.
Prasar Bharati is India’s Public Service Broadcaster which is a statutory autonomous body established under the Prasar Bharati Act and it came into existence in 1997. Doordarshan is India’s Public Service Television network and being the TV vertical of Prasar Bharati, its one of the largest broadcasting organization in the world in terms of the studios and transmitters. The material gifted to FBC from India includes programmes produced by Prasar Bharti/Doordarshan on Lata Mangeshkar, Mohammad Rafi, Mukesh, to name a few.
Speaking at the handing over program, Indian High Commissioner Sapkal said the partnership recognises FBC’s efforts to generate appreciation of rare classic collections of cultural programs. He also thanked FBC for its support in raising awareness on cultural programs like Namaste Pasifika Festival that promotes multiculturalism.
FBC CEO, Mr Riyaz Sayed-Khaiyum acknowledged Indian High Commission for its partnership in facilitating the whole process of being able to get the content from Prasar Bharti in India. He said FBC is committed to strengthen collaboration in the areas of exchange of audio-visual programs that nurtures appreciation of cultures and unity between Fiji and India.
