A new era has been established in the advancement of Fiji and Israel’s diplomatic relations, following the first ever commemoration of Israel’s 75th Independence Day in Fiji last night.
The occasion marked the two nation’s collective commitment to build sustainable socio-economic development. In his remarks, Ambassador of the State of Israel to Fiji, H.E Roi Rosenblit welcomed the People’s Coalition Government’s decision to open an embassy in Israel.
He said the appointment of Mr. Rokoseru Nabalarua as Fiji’s Honorary Consul for Israel signifies the growing relations between the two countries.
He also highlighted Israel’s new initiative that will benefit 13 agriculture students of Navuso Agricultural Technical Institute which will enable students to engage in paid work in Israel’s agriculture sector. Fiji and Israel’s unique relations in peace-keeping duties was also acknowledged by the Ambassador.
Speaking on behalf of the Fiji Government, the Acting Chief of Protocol, Ms. Rosa Dalituicama said the close friendship between the two nations’ spans 53 years of partnership and progress underpinned by values of courage, resilience and determination in the face of adversity, and grounded on our shared faith, and mutual respect. The celebrations was attended by H.E the President Ratu Wiliame Katonivere, Prime Minister Hon. Sitiveni Rabuka, Cook Islands Prime Minister, Hon. Mark Brown, Deputy Prime Ministers Hon. Biman Prasad; Hon. Viliame Gavoka and Hon. Manoa Kamikamica; Permanent Secretaries, members of the diplomatic corps and non-government and civil society organisations.
