The students and teachers of the Naceva District School on the beautiful Island of Kadavu were delighted as they were presented with the newly built classrooms and solar power system.
At the official handing over ceremony of the new projects, the Naceva District School Management was pleased to receive the new classrooms facility and furniture from the Embassy of Japan. The Project was funded under Japan’s Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP) Programme valued at FJD $377,764.81.
Japanese Ambassador to Fiji, His Excellency Mr. Rokuichiro Michii, formally handed over the new classroom building to the Naceva District School Management. Ambassador Michii was joined by the Assistant Minister for Foreign Affairs Hon. Lenora Qereqeretabua and New Zealand’s High Commissioner to Fiji Her Excellency Charlotte Darlow.
On a similar note, High Commissioner Darlow formally handed over the solar power system to the Naceva District School, as part of a double celebration for the opening of the new classroom block funded by the Government of Japan.
In May 2022, the New Zealand High Commission partnered with Naceva District School to install a solar powered system that has been providing a reliable source of clean energy to the school to light up classrooms, operate office equipment and enable internet connectivity to promote learning and information sharing.
On behalf of the Government of Fiji, the Assistant Minister Qereqeretabua thanked Japan and New Zealand for their valuable contributions for this project, which will greatly benefit the students and staff of the Naceva District School.
The new classroom, furniture and solar power system will complement a conducive learning environment, enabling the students to excel in their academic achievements.
The Embassy of Japan and the New Zealand High Commission reaffirmed their commitment to supporting such educational initiatives and community development programs in Fiji through enhanced partnership and assistance.
As part of their official visit to Kadavu, the Assistant Minister Qereqeretabua and Ambassador Michii and High Commissioner Darlow also met with the Kadavu Provincial Administrator where they were briefed on the current development projects and plans to further upgrade the health, education and other development facilities on Kadavu.
