Earlier this week, the Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs Major General (Ret’d) Ioane Naivalurua met with the Director General for Overseas Korean Nationals Protection, Mr Lee Jae Wan of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Republic of Korea.
During a meeting held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs headquarters in Suva, the officials had the opportunity to exchange information as a way forward to enhance the existing cooperation between Republic of Fiji and Republic of Korea.
Fiji and Korea have enjoyed good relations since the establishment of Diplomatic relations in 1971 and the two countries endeavour together in addressing current global pressing issues such as climate change and renewable energy.
In his remarks, Mr Wan congratulated Fiji for the 2018 elections outcome and also commended Fiji for its appointment as a member of the United Nations Human Rights Council and acknowledged Fiji’s strong leadership in championing the climate change issues at world front.
In response, Mr Naivalurua acknowledged the government of the Republic of Korea for its continued commitment to broaden the bilateral collaboration and promote Fiji’s socio- economic development.
The two countries have strengthened their diplomatic relations through broadened cooperation in the key areas of development namely Education, Health, Fisheries, Defence, Infrastructure, Hydrography, Parliament, Sports to name a few.
