The Ambassador of the Republic of Latvia to the Commonwealth of Australia and New Zealand and Special Envoy to the Pacific, His Excellency Margers Krams met with Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs Dr. Raijeli Taga at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs headquarters on Tuesday 25 March 2025.
The meeting focused on avenues to strengthen the bilateral relations between the two nations. It builds on the recent collaboration for the roundtable meeting on sea-level rise with insights on International Law Commission (ILC).
The first such dialogue was attended by the regional and national stakeholders at the Ministry headquarters earlier this week on Monday 24 March 2025.
In her remarks, Dr Taga acknowledged Latvia for their collaboration and commitment to strengthen engagements with Fiji, stating that the Ministry will work with Embassy of Latvia in Australia to further the ties between the two nations.
The meeting highlighted prospects for cooperation in the following areas: Renewable and Green Initiatives, Financial system, Information Technology and Digital transformation; and Science and Research.
Ambassador Krams reaffirmed Latvia’s commitment to deepen engagements with Fiji and broader Pacific, with emphasis on shared priorities in climate change, oceans conservation, socioeconomic development, education and health.
The Ministry extends its sincere appreciation to the Embassy of the Republic of Latvia in Australia and the German Konrad Adenauer Foundation for their support, for the roundtable dialogue on sea level rise. Looking ahead to the future, both nations aim to collaborate on similar initiatives focused on advancing sustainable development, peace, security and prosperity.
