Three staff members of the Fiji Ministry of Foreign Affairs recently graduated from a 15-week Certificate in basic Chinese Language program, collaboratively facilitated by the Confucius Institute at the University of the South Pacific (USP), Chinese Embassy in Fiji and the Ministry’s Asia Bureau.
The program aims to not only promote cultural diplomacy and cooperation between Fiji and China, but also contribute towards the professional development of the 28 graduates.
At the graduation ceremony held at the USP Campus in Suva, Director of the Confucius Institute at the USP, Dr. Li Yini congratulated the graduates and emphasized the value of Chinese language proficiency in fostering deeper cultural understanding and friendship between the two nations.
She remarked that learning the Chinese language would not only enrich the graduates’ career prospects but also enhance their ability to connect with Chinese culture and modern development.
Further, Dr Yini acknowledged the collaborative effort undertaken by the agencies in coordinating this capacity building opportunity for the participants. Minister-Counsellor of the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Fiji, Mr Wang Yuan also attended the program and conveyed appreciation for the joint initiative.
