Netherlands National Day commemorated for the first time in Fiji

Advancing Fiji’s national interest is top priority for Fiji’s newly appointed Heads of Missions for the United States of America (U.S.A) and United Kingdom (UK).
This was articulated in an event organized by the Fiji Ministry of Foreign Affairs to farewell the two new Heads of Missions, Fiji’s Ambassador to the U.S.A, His Excellency Ratu Ilisoni Vuidreketi and Fiji’s High Commissioner to UK, His Excellency Jovilisi Suveinakama, as they prepare to depart our shores this weekend to take up their assignments in the U.S.A and UK, respectively.
On behalf of the Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs, Hon.Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka, and the Assistant Minister, Hon.Lenora Qereqeretabua, the Permanent Secretary Foreign Affairs, Dr Lesikimacuata Korovavala extended the Fiji Government’s best wishes to the Heads of Missions.
In his remarks, PS Korovavala highlighted the significance of Fiji’s relations with our traditional partners like the U.S.A and UK and others, and the role of our Missions in deepening and broadening Fiji’s diplomatic footprint.
He spoke on the important role of Fijian diplomats under the three pillars of our foreign policy in advancing Fiji’s interests while also strengthening multilateral and bilateral cooperation with global and regional partners.
PS Korovavala underscored transformational leadership as indispensable to contributing to development, poverty alleviation, nation building goals, by focusing on returns of our investments in the improvement to the quality of lives of our people.
In their remarks, the two diplomats acknowledged PS Korovavala for his exceptional leadership and MFA team for their incredible support and encouragement.
They reaffirmed their commitment to carry out their roles to the best of their abilities, putting Fiji’s interest at the center of every work they do in their roles.
The two Heads of Missions acknowledge that the international environment continues to evolve and has become increasingly complex.
At the same time they look forward to working closely with the receiving State, development partners, international organisations within their responsibilities and Fijian diaspora on to achieve outcomes that do justice to the call of the nation upon them.
Their work will also involve advocating global and regional matters of importance including Economic Cooperation, Regional Security, Cultural Exchanges, Climate Change and Environmental Protection and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) among the key issues that impact our national and regional undertakings.
Fiji’s newly appointed High Commissioner to India, His Excellency Jagnnath Sami and Fiji’s Ambassador to the People’s Republic of China His Excellency Robert Lee, were also in attendance at the occasion.
