The Fiji Ministry of Foreign Affairs Team led by the Permanent Secretary Dr. Raijeli Taga, joined the Indonesian Embassy Suva – Fiji, Fiji Indonesia Friendship Association (FIFA) members, Fijian alumni of Indonesian scholarships (ISFA), members of the Indonesian Diaspora, and the Fijian youths for “Keep Fiji Clean” campaign at the Suva Seawall on Wednesday 19th March 2025.
The initiative was organised in recognition of the 51st anniversary of the diplomatic relations between Fiji and Indonesia, and the 1st anniversary of the Fiji and Indonesia Friendship Association (FIFA).
The program began with remarks delivered by the Indonesian Ambassador to Fiji, His Excellency Dupito Simamora and FIFA president and Fiji’s former Ambassador to Indonesia Ratu Tui Cavuilati.
They highlighted the significance of the bilateral relations and development cooperation between the two nations. Following the formalities, the team proceeded to the designated clean up route from My Suva Park to Suzuki Park which is a favorite recreational space for locals and visitors alike.
The Keep Fiji Clean initiative reflects the shared commitment by Fiji and Indonesia towards environment conservation and sustainability. The focus of this collaborative effort aimed at both raising environmental awareness and fostering deeper cultural ties. Further, it serves as a timely reminder on the importance of collective action and efforts needed to keep our environment clean and healthy.
The Indonesian Embassy conveyed its sincere appreciation to FIFA members, Dr. Taga and Team MFA, and including everyone who supported the Keep Fiji Clean initiative. Similarly, the Ministry acknowledged the Indonesian Embassy in Suva, FIFA and all the volunteers who supported this worthwhile initiative.
Over the past year, FIFA has become a symbol of strong bilateral ties, fostering collaboration and friendship across diverse communities through meaningful initiatives and cultural exchanges. The one year anniversary highlights FIFA’s shared commitment to strengthen bonds and promote mutual understanding between the two nations.
The initiative was supported by 70 volunteers from across Suva, including senior representatives of the Fiji Government, university students, retired military personnel, and community organizations.
The Keep Fiji Clean Initiative not only contributed to environmental conservation but also deepened the spirit of friendship and cooperation between the people of Fiji and Indonesia. It sets the foundation for future joint initiatives focused on advancing sustainability, youth engagement, and cultural understanding.
