The 63 new recruits of correction officers who graduated yesterday after the 15 weeks of training have been reminded on the importance of their role towards enhancing the services provided by the Fiji Corrections Services.
The Fiji Corrections Services passing out parade program officiated by the Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs Major General (Ret’d) Ioane Naivalurua was held at the Naboro Corrections Complex. The program coincided with the official commissioning of Fiji Correction Services Academy Training classroom and the launch of the K9 kennels at Naboro, Nasinu and Labasa.
Whilst congratulating the new recruits, PS Naivalurua said that the role of corrections officers is a noble profession and it comes with great responsibilities in ensuring integrity, accountability and transparency of the services delivered by the Fiji Corrections Services.
He emphasised on the importance of having the qualities of great leadership and commitment to serve the nation and stated that given Fiji’s historic achievement as being the first Pacific island nation on the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC), Fiji is regarded as a global leader in terms of advocating the protection of human rights.
The new recruits have also been encouraged to inculcate the 11 principles of excellence in service which includes; First value Excellence, Not to settle for average, Pay attention to detail, Remain committed to what really matters, Display integrity and sound ethics, Show genuine respect for others, Go the second mile, Demonstrate consistency, Never stop improving, Give 100 percent, and Make excellence your lifestyle. PS Naivalurua also commended the Fiji Corrections Services for its progressive developments and commitment to service delivery.
The Commissioner of the Fiji Corrections Services, Commander Francis B. Kean thanked the Fijian Government for funding the capital projects. The training classroom which has been built with the funding of $108,500.00 will boost the training capacity and capabilities of the Fiji Corrections Services while the commissioning of the K9 Unit at three kennels, Naboro, Nasinu and Labasa that has been accomplished with the funding of $450,615.81, will enhance the safety and security in all the entry points at the correctional centres.
