New Zealand’s Prime Minister Rt Hon. Christopher Luxon will be on his first official visit to Fiji next week from Wednesday 5th to Friday 7th June 2024.
Prime Minister Luxon’s visit to Fiji symbolises our revitalised and comprehensive partnership with focus on advancing trade and economic cooperation.
While in Fiji, PM Luxon will meet with His Excellency the President, Ratu Wiliame Katonivere, along with a bilateral meeting with Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs Hon. Sitiveni Rabuka.
Both the Prime Ministers will discuss prospects to further strengthen cooperation between our two nations on bilateral, regional, and multilateral priorities with emphasis on economic sustainability and growth, climate change, labour mobility, health and education, defence and security, people to people links, regional peace and prosperity, amongst key issues of importance to our nations.
It will be an opportunity to reflect and refresh the ongoing cooperation underpinned in the Duavata Partnership Agreement.
The Prime Ministers will also attend the Joint New Zealand-Fiji and Fiji-New Zealand Business Council Conference, a platform to boost economy, trade and investment opportunities.
Speaking on the significance of his visit to Fiji, Prime Minister Christopher Luxon said, “Fiji is a critical partner for New Zealand, as we navigate the increasingly choppy geostrategic waters ahead. “The partnership between our two countries is broader than most New Zealanders are aware of, from our close security cooperation to our business links, and – of course – our shared love of rugby.”
The Fiji leg of the trip will have a significant trade and economic focus.
“Fiji is our biggest trading partner amongst Pacific islands countries and there is plenty of scope to leverage even more economic opportunities for Kiwi and Fijian businesses,” Mr Luxon says.
Prime Minister Christopher Luxon’s highly anticipated visit to Niue and Fiji next week reaffirms New Zealand’s unwavering commitment and support for the Pacific family and our priorities for regional security, peace and prosperity.
